फुक्क आईएम लोविंग थिस!
the title to this one is FUCK! I'm loving this. brush up on this. maybe a new tattoo in the works?
Cyberland is the closest internet cafe. a block or two from our room. we are working on getting dialup working in our room. who knows the adventure that will be. This place is the most organized chaos I've even seen. and there is peace among it all. The horns honk constantly, and traffic just makes you laugh in the backseat, inches from death each and every second. But no one collides.
Even in the poverty there is incredible beauty. I will post more images as i can. the one of Leah and our host Mainak(MOY-nak) was taken on my cellphone. more on the way.
The food is amazing, and pennies a plate. There is color everywhere, and the city is trying fast to catch up on the infrastructure that is too small. WAY tooo small for the 30 million people who live here. South Cal, the part of the city we are in feels much like a small town. Things of note so far are the nooks and crannies. When i steady my gaze on any one spot in the chaos, there are nooks and crannies. windows, doorways, crawlspaces, alleys, pathways, balconies, rooftops and more. There is activity in each. How people decide which road to turn on, or who's turn it is in traffic is beyond me. It is a true joy to bear witness. stare it down leah says when you are driving in traffic and there are three cars driving opposite us. Everyone arrives alive. and a long trip is 68 rupees. less than two dollars. Gas is the same as Canada, about $1/Litre.
tea for 5 cents, and coffee shops serving excellent italian coffee. thank God. We have a bodum and Ideal coffee from Kensington Market in Toronto in our room nonetheless. and smoking is allowed everywhere. It's not an annoyance, it feels instead like freedom and acceptance. Wait until you see the photos from the smoking room at the Delhi airport. :)
Is the ratio in India 95% and 5% like at home? The jury is still out. There are many characters already, and we've been here about 24 hours. It is wonderful to be next to Leah on this return after nine years. She is so loved here, and no one has fogotten her. It brings tears to my eyes. There have been lots of tears, and so much Gratitude. I'll leave this with some of the great words of the journey to date.
"There are many more days, boss." -Mainak
"As you wish"-Many servants who surround us
"This can all be arranged."-Mala, regarding taking me to hospitals to shoot
"I'm totally ok with my gratitude right now." -Me
over and out.
